As your constituent, I am writing today to request that you add your name to EDM 1104 of 30 April 2004 on ARMENIA. The Armenian Genocide of 1915 was the first of many tragic and horrendous events of the 20th century. However, unlike the Holocaust and subsequent acts of genocide, it has not been recognised as genocide by the British Government. This is in spite of the overwhelming and undeniable academic and scholarly evidence that points to it being genocide as defined by the 1948 United Nations Convention on Genocide.
The French, Italian, Belgian, Swedish, Canadian and European Parliaments as well as many other governments, parliaments, county councils and institutions, have passed resolutions recognising the Armenian Genocide. Many of them have also called on Turkey to do likewise.
I urge you as my ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE to add your signature to those who seek an end to the painful denial of the Armenian Genocide.
Yours sincerely (Your name)
